Horizons
The South Learning Centre is able to offer some exciting alternatives to cater for individual students needs with:
- a dynamic technological learning environment
- availability of a wide range of speakers, mentors and experts from a variety of occupations
Students from South Christchurch schools work collaboratively at the South Learning Centre.
- Each school uses their own student selection policy for these placements.
- The schools are responsible for the transportation of the students to and from the South Learning Centre.
- Students will need to bring to the Centre: a water bottle, enthusiasm and their completed South Learning Centre consent form.
- Student places are limited for each school and in each Programme. Bookings are accepted on a first in basis.

Film School
Let professional script writer, Elizabeth O’Connor, teach you the ins and outs of story telling via film. Then develop skills in capturing digital video and editing film footage to create a short film using Movie Maker. This Horizons programme is a collaboration between South Learning Centre, The School for Young Writers and has been partially funded by the Belladonna Film Trust.

Literacy Extension: Book Wizards 3D
Develop confidence and a positive attitude towards reading. Use Movie Maker to create an electronic book containing 3D elements to be shared with others.

Animated Stories
“Santa Claus is coming to town…” That’s right, Christmas is almost upon us so why not come down to the Learning Centre and create your own animated Christmas story using Photostory 3 or PowerPoint.
