Building Sustainability

Architect's view of the buildingSustainability was one of the key issues identified by members of the local community during the public consultation phase of planning for the new South Christchurch Library, due to open in August 2003.

The Warren and Mahoney designed architecture is among the most environmentally friendly buildings in Christchurch. Sustainability features include a focus on minimising waste and energy use, and use of sustainable and non-toxic materials.

The South Christchurch Library was built by Mainzeal Property and Construction on Christchurch City Council land formerly occupied by the Beckenham Service Centre, and is surrounded by a moat, with water as a central design theme.
