Media Coffee club

A time to use our technology to develop your skills and be creative. Bring your own projects or we will suggest things you may try. For those beyond beginner stage. Not on in school holidays. Coffee and tea provided.
Feel free to use this as a drop in time with computing queries but please contact us first.

Wednesdays: Gaming Appreciation at South Learning Centre

Explore the world of game design. As well as playing a variety of games, you'll learn how they're designed, what you can do to make a design more fun and even make some games yourself.
Please note: Low level violence games may be played

Wednesday 30 July 2008: Family Maths Workshop

The Family Maths Workshop involves hands on experiences while covering key mathematical concepts and includes take home resources and games to use at home. Activities are adaptable to many levels and abilities. Come and have fun whilst learning mathematical strategies together. Limited numbers.

Thursday 31 July 2008: Parent Maths Workshops

The content for the Parent seminar/workshop include: How do children learn mathematics? What is happening in our classrooms? Numeracy and mental . How we can support our child's maths learning at home? Games and activities we can complete with our children. Some interactive maths sites suitable for parents and children.

Saturday 2 August 2008: Family Maths Workshop

Tuesday 12 August 2008: Digital photography basics

Using a computer learn how to download your pictures, do some basic editing of the images and save them for later use. Please bring camera and cord to connect to computer.

Discover how to find, plan and book your dream holidays or just to help you dream. Technology taster.

Tuesday 26 August 2008: Family Maths Fun

Learn and use numeracy and patterning strategies to solve problems. Have fun with fractions and tessalation designs. Based at year 6,7,8 levels each session will cover key mathematical concepts and include take home resources and games to use at home. An adult must accompany the child for the 3 session programme.

Monday 1 September 2008: Online books, diaries and story sites

TEchnology TAster: Explore a range of easy to use interesting sites.

Monday 8 September 2008: Using the internet more cleverly

Technology Taster: Beyond just random google hunting. Learn some useful tricks and explore some other sites and use other search engines.

Wednesday 10 September 2008: More things to do with Technology

Technology taster: try things ---- scan pictures, webcam tricks, listen to music, make basic music and much more.

Wednesdays from 10 September 2008: Researching and documenting family roots

A 3 part programme which helps you explore national and international resources and learn useful ways to record your family history information.

Thursday 11 September 2008: Tagging of a different kind

Learn how to manage your pictures online and make them easier to find.

Monday 15 September 2008: Making calendars and Cards

Technology Taster: create and calendars using your own photos if you wish or find others.

Monday 13 October 2008: Basic web page creation

A 2 part programme. Using an online web creation tool learn how to make a very basic website.

Tuesday 21 October 2008: Create a family history story book

A 2 part programme. Use your old photos and documents to begin the production of the story of your family.

Tuesday 11 November 2008: Social networking

What are blogs, social networks etc? Come and find out and explore some. How do you get involved and what are some issues to be aware of?

Tuesday 25 November 2008: Newsletter Creation

Design and create a newsletter for your family or something else. A 2 part programme.

Monday 8 December 2008: Even more using Technology and the internet.

What do you need to know? Are your frustrated by your searches. Food, music, rest and relaxation. Find it and maybe create it.
