Tuesdays: Gaming Appreciation at Upper Riccarton Learning Centre

Explore the world of game design. As well as playing a variety of games, you'll learn how they're designed, what you can do to make a design more fun and even make some games yourself.
Please note: Low level violence games may be played.

Friday 1 August 2008: Family Maths Workshop

The Family Maths Workshop involves hands on experiences while covering key mathematical concepts and includes take home resources and games to use at home. Activities are adaptable to many levels and abilities. Come and have fun whilst learning mathematical strategies together.

Sunday 3 August 2008: Parent Maths Workshops

The content for the Parent seminar/workshop include: How do children learn mathematics? What is happening in our classrooms? Numeracy and mental strategies. How we can support our child's maths learning at home. Games and activities we can complete with our children. Some interactive maths sites suitable for parents and children.

Tuesday 12 August 2008: Social networks, blogs etc. Come find out and try

What are these new tools, how do you get involved and what are some issues to be aware of.
Also at South Learning Centre 23rd June and 11th November.

Tuesday 19 August 2008: Research Skills --More than Google.

Develop skills in research useful for homework etc. Discover strategies and tips for uncovering information on the internet.
For anyone over 10 years old. Children to be accompanied by adults.

Tuesday 9 September 2008: Building a community Blog or wiki

Get involved with Web 2.0. Start your own community blog or wiki. Find out more. For people above 12 years old.

Tuesday 16 September 2008: Family project time

For family groups. Special technology creative topics of interest to these groups. Topics will be announced closer to the date. For children above 7 years and their Caregivers.

Tuesday 23 September 2008: Digital Photography.

A basic 2 part programme:
Part 1 on the 23rd September is based on How to take good pictures with your digital camera.
Part 2 on the 14th October is after you have taken the picture -- what next?
Need to bring camera and handbooks and cords if available.

Tuesday 4 November 2008: What to read next?

How to decide what to read for you and your family? Suitable for children above 10 years accompanied by an adult.

Tuesday 11 November 2008: Making calendars and Cards

A 2 part programme. Make cards and calendars using your own pictures or we will help you search for some.

Tuesday 25 November 2008: Learn to use effective PowerPoint

Create a digital story on any topic. A 2 part programme.

Tuesday 2 December 2008: Buying and selling online

An overview. Hints on selling things before Christmas and buying things for Christmas.
